About Viariz

Although his rustic appearance and thick beard might conjure the image of an ordinary countryman, Raúl Pérez is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in the wine industry. Why? Because this oenologist from Bierzo possesses the unique ability to turn everything he touches into gold. Not only is he part of the elite group of winemakers with 100 Parker points on his résumé, but he has also succeeded in putting Bierzo on the map, transforming it into one of the most sought-after regions for wine enthusiasts.
Therefore, when Raúl launches a new project, it is impossible not to be excited to discover it. Especially knowing that his creations are distinguished by their exceptional quality and often limited production. The latest of these projects, Viariz, is situated in a small settlement near Corullón, in Bierzo, Castilla y León. In this secluded and high-altitude corner (up to 1,045 metres), the small plots are arranged on steep slopes, on clay and slate soils. Alongside his friend and fellow adventurer, the entrepreneur and wine lover Alfonso Carrascosa, Raúl embarks on this personal project with the same commitment and passion as always. 


This is how we are introduced to Viariz, a red wine crafted from the mencía variety from three unique terroirs: La Muria, La Tora, and Las Pozas. A blend that stands out for its great finesse and a sublime aromatic palette. To achieve this, vinification is carried out with whole cluster fermentation in oak vats with native yeasts, which enhances its purity and expression of terroir. With a limited production and a warm reception from the prestigious publication The Wine Advocate, this wine is undoubtedly a jewel of unparalleled quality, continuing Raúl Pérez's tradition: creating unique wines that always leave us wanting more.
