About Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Santo Spirito

Castiglione di Sicilia is an attractive destination for nature lovers, wine enthusiasts and those who want to explore the culture and history of Sicily (Italy). But above all, it is known for its proximity to the majestic Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. It is here that Tenuta Delle Terre Nere, a winery named after the area’s black volcanic soils, produces unique wines with unique complexity and elegance. This is undoubtedly the result of a combination of native varieties, environmentally friendly practices and meticulous attention to detail. A way of doing things that has created a style of its own and has earned the respect of the international winemaking community.

Among their most successful wines, Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Santo Spirito is a red made from the Nerello Mascalese variety and enriched with a small amount of Nerello Cappuccio from a vineyard located in the district of Santo Spirito, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. Hence the name of the wine. The vines are between 40 and 100 years old and are planted on the north side of the volcano (DOC Etna Rosso), at an altitude of 700-750 metres above sea level. Cultivation is sustainable and the grapes are harvested by hand at the optimal point of ripeness. In the winery, the grapes are selected and fermentation begins at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for 16-18 months in large 10-30 hectolitre French oak barrels. Finally it spends one month in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Santo Spirito 2021 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe black fruit accompanied by notes of chocolate and hints of sweet spices. The palate is broad, enveloping and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with well-integrated acidity, marked tannins and a long and persistently mineral finish.
