About Sangarida Mencía

Who ever said a love story couldn't culminate in becoming a wine? Attis was a young man chosen by the goddess Cybele to tend to her worship, in exchange for a promise: to remain celibate forever. Everything was going according to plan until Sangarida appeared, a beautiful tree nymph with whom Attis fell hopelessly in love, thus breaking his vow. The story ended in tragedy, but many centuries later, Bodega Attis has sought to resurrect Sangarida in a far more congenial manner: transformed into a wine born in Bierzo.
 
Behind this is the project of brothers Robustiano and Baldomero Fariña, a family connected to wine for three generations, dedicated to interpreting each landscape through its variety and its plot. In Sangarida Mencía, this character finds its place in San Lorenzo (Castilla y León, Spain), on the slopes of the Montes Aquilianos, where over 50-year-old mencía vines grow under bush vine cultivation and an ecological philosophy.
 
Here, the red variety reveals itself in its most spontaneous form: youthful, juicy, and brimming with fruit. After a meticulous selection, it ferments in stainless steel and spends three months on its fine lees, gaining smoothness without losing the freshness that makes everything feel effortless. It is a red wine with a casual flair, one that arrives with fruit, lightness, and the desire to linger for a while.
 
Perhaps that is why Sangarida Mencía possesses something of those tales that begin with little planning and end up becoming pleasant memories. A wine to let the conversation flow, to extend the afternoon, and for once, for no one to be in a hurry to fulfil their promises.
