About Sangarida La Yegua

There are landscapes that ultimately lend their names to a bottle. On the slopes of the Montes Aquilianos, beneath the shadow of the Silla de la Yegua, in Castilla y León, the grapes that shape this distinctive white wine are born. A wine that gazes at the landscape rather than following trends, preserving within its vineyards a small piece of Bierzo's history.
 
Sangarida La Yegua embodies two ways of understanding the land. On one hand, the godello grape from two plots, Campo and San Lorenzo—one fresher and the other with greater depth; on the other, the doña blanca from four ancient vineyards planted between 1901 and 1910, still co-planted with mencía. Behind it stands the Attis winery and the efforts of the Fariña brothers, Robustiano and Baldomero, committed to ensuring each wine retains the character of its origin.
 
The result arises from an equal encounter between godello and doña blanca, fermented and aged in French oak and acacia barrels. The spontaneous fermentation and twelve months on fine lees, accompanied by gentle batonnages, impart depth and texture without diminishing its freshness. There is something particularly balanced in the way its aromatic profile, the tension of acidity, and the elegant touch of wood coexist when it knows its place.
 
Sangarida La Yegua is a white wine for when the table demands more than just accompaniment: a bottle with its own landscape, memory, and conversation. Perhaps that is why Sangarida La Yegua is best savoured slowly, allowing each glass to reveal a little more of those old vineyards that have been gazing at the slopes of Bierzo for over a century.
