About Raimat Turons de Vallcorba

If there is anyone who truly understands the terroir of the D.O. Costers del Segre, it is undoubtedly the Raventós family, the driving force behind the denomination and founders of the renowned winery Raimat. Since 1914, they have worked to transform 3,200 hectares of barren land in Lleida (Catalonia) into a prominent winery offering a wide range of wines and cavas with excellent value for money. Their efforts were greatly aided by the construction of the Aragón and Catalonia canal in 1910, which allowed for an increase in irrigated areas and thus the production of top-quality grapes. Such has been the influence of Raimat in the region that, even in 1930, when grape harvesting began, one of the challenges was the rabbits that ate the vineyard shoots, prompting hunting in neighbouring villages to such an extent that the dish called “conejo a la raimat” became famous.

However, Raimat is particularly distinguished for its consistent contribution of high-quality wines with their own unique character. With the largest vineyard in Europe owned by a single family and five centuries of experience, they are unparalleled in offering us their first estate wine, Raimat Turons de Vallcorba. This red wine is crafted from the finest cabernet sauvignon grapes sourced from the hill of Vallcorba, a select corner chosen for its vines with an average age of 25 years on soils of limestone and pebbles. The vineyard is managed entirely organically, and harvesting is done selectively by hand in 10-kilogram boxes to prevent grape oxidation. In the winery, a cold pre-fermentation maceration is conducted, followed by fermentation with the skins in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25-28°C with routine pump-overs. Once fermentation is complete, the wine remains in contact with the skins before being separated and pressed to undergo malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine ages for 20 months in French oak foudres.

The result is Raimat Turons de Vallcorba, a limited production of fewer than 7,000 bottles originating from the hills of Raimat with minimal intervention to allow the vineyard to express itself as it truly is. A delight!

2019 Raimat Turons De Vallcorba 2019 is an aromatic red wine where red and black fruit notes predominate accompanied by subtle spicy and vanilla aromas. The palate is rich and persistent. A red wine with noble tannins that is expressive and has an excellent balance between fruit and oak.

Raimat Turons de Vallcorba 2018 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of ripe red and black fruit, spiced notes and hints of wood. On the palate it is lush, noble and well-structured. A medium-bodied wine with fresh acidity, silky tannins and a long, lingering finish.
