About Trompo

Remember the trompo? That small wooden spinning top that required a string to launch and then spin on its axis for as long as possible. It may have become a relic of a bygone era in some places, yet the game retains an irresistible charm: setting it spinning and seeing how far it goes. Perhaps that's why it fits so well as a name for this tinto from Ribera del Duero, part of a collection that revives children's games for the labels.
 
Behind Trompo is A Tresbolillo, a venture born from the collaboration between Alma Vinos Únicos and La Tintorería, exploring some of the most intriguing wine regions of Spain with a fresh perspective and without undue solemnity. The winery's name originates from an old method of planting vines, arranged in interspersed rows forming small triangles on the ground. This method of cultivating the land also reflects their approach to vino: tradition, curiosity, and a touch of playfulness.
 
Trompo is a red wine originating in Gumiel de Mercado (Burgos, Spain), from vines over 35 years old rooted in clay soils with a limestone base. It is a tempranillo hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented in wooden vats, and aged for seven months in used French oak barrels. The outcome seeks freshness and fruitiness over solemnity, with a pleasant and lively expression that easily conjures images of it around a table laden with snacks.
 
There are vinos that seem to demand a special occasion, and others that simply find their place.
