About Pierre Morey Monthelie 1er Cru

Pierre Morey Monthelie 1er Cru is a biodynamic, barrel-aged red wine made by Pierre Morey in the French denomination of AOC Monthelie 1er Cru / Côte d'Or, in Burgundy with the Pinot Noir variety.
 
A prestigious winery in Burgundy, the Morey family have a winemaking history that stretches back to the 16th century. Then in 1971, Pierre Morey, master at Domaine Leflaive, came along and established Domaine Pierre Morey. Today, together with his daughter Anne Morey, he cultivates 10 hectares of excellent vineyards in the south of the Côte d'Or, following biodynamic principles and an admirable talent for winemaking.
 
 
Pierre Morey Monthelie 1er Cru comes from a 1er Cru lying on a southeast facing slope. This is an area of about 0.14 hectares with stony clay and chalk soil and old vines that were planted in 1965. The vines are cultivated using biodynamic agriculture and no chemical products, instead opting for organic treatments that maintain the natural balance of the terroir. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. 
 
 
In the winery, the Pierre Morey Monthelie 1er Cru grapes are vinified separately. They ferment spontaneously with native yeasts and age in wooden barrels with careful battonnage to maintain the aromas of the yeasts. 
 
 
Known all around the world mainly for their white wines, this Pierre Morey Monthelie 1er Cru red wine reveals Pierre’s love for Burgundy and shows that he knows how to express these terroirs better than anyone. 
 
2018 Pierre Morey Monthelie 1er Cru 2018 is a smooth red wine with generous aromas of red fruits and notes of minerality. On the palate it is smooth, lively and direct. A fairly tannic wine with plenty of energy and a persistently spicy finish.
