About Peña El Gato Garnachas Viejas

Peña El Gato Garnachas Viejas is a red wine produced in Rioja by the Juan Carlos Sacha winery in Baños del Rio Tobia, La Rioja.

Juan Carlos Sacha is the person at the helm of the project, with 5.5 hectares of organically cultivated vineyards in the Najerilla valley, La Rioja Alta. He has been one of the driving forces behind rescuing the area’s old varieties and going back to wine growing.

Peña El Gato Garnachas Viejas comes from a 95 year old Garnacha Vieja vineyard 750 metres above sea level on shallow clay-lime soil. On entering the winery, the grape is destemmed and introduced to 500 litre barrels where it ferments and ages for 11 months.

2019 Peña El Gato Garnachas Viejas 2019 is a succulent red wine, brimming with fruit-forward aromas underscored by herbaceous nuances and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is silky, light, and eminently quaffable. This wine exhibits pronounced acidity and robust tannins.
