Les Crestes is a red wine from the D.O Priorat produced by the winery Mas Doix. This is a blend of Grenache, Cariñena and Syrah. The first varietal stands out as the dominant force.
The grapes for Les Crestes originates from vineyards averaging 20 years of age planded on sloped located at 400 meters above sea level. The soils are slate, a predominant type in the region.
The harvest is carried out by hand. The grapes are thus transported to the winery in small 10kg capacity boxes, this is to prevent breakages and unwanted fermentation. The grapes, once in the winery are again selected, this time from the sorting table.
Each parcel of land is vinified separately. For fermentation, the system "submerged cap" which consists of maintain the "cap" or the solid material of the grape that rises to the top in the must during the fermentation.
After a process of production, Les Crestes is aged in second year ultrafine grain French barrels for 10 months. The wine is not clarified of filtred, Les Crestes rests for several months in bottle.
The history of Mas Doix began in 1850. This small family winery is characterised by the personality of the lands in Priorat which are faithfully transferred to the wines.
