About La Dame de Boüard

In the Bordeaux tradition, there exists a figure of remarkable intelligence and generosity known as the "second wine." This concept emerged from the grand estates or châteaux to find a purpose for grapes from their own vineyards that, due to coming from younger vines or plots with a fresher profile, are not used in the main grand vin, yet still retain the estate's signature. Coralie de Boüard, raised under the aegis of one of the most revered lineages on Bordeaux's right bank, applied the same exacting standards to her personal project in Montagne-Saint-Émilion. La Dame de Boüard is the most approachable, direct, and alluring expression of this philosophy. A red wine crafted to enjoy the distinction and mastery of a great winemaking family without the need to wait years in the cellar or reserve the bottle for an exceptional occasion.

From Montagne-Saint-Émilion, one of the most prestigious satellite appellations located north of Saint-Émilion, this wine originates from meticulously selected plots within the estate. Vines that thrive on soils where clay combines with limestone, a perfect blend that allows the plant to retain just the right amount of moisture during hot seasons while imparting a pronounced mineral freshness. The region's climate is temperate oceanic, with mild winters and warm summers moderated by the proximity of rivers, ensuring a gradual and unhurried ripening. The dominant variety is Merlot, accompanied by small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that complete the blend. Adhering to a cultivation philosophy that is highly respectful of the environment, vineyard work is conducted with precision and care to preserve the soil's biodiversity.

The production of La Dame de Boüard is handled with the same attention and methodology as the château's top-tier wines. Harvesting is carried out both manually and mechanically with optical selection to ensure that only grapes in perfect sanitary condition enter the winery. Once received, the clusters are destemmed, separating the berries from the green parts or stems, and are transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Here, the must undergoes alcoholic fermentation, the biological process in which yeasts convert sugars into alcohol, accompanied by gentle extractions to obtain color and silky tannins without over-extraction. After fermentation is complete, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged in French oak barrels where it matures for months before bottling.

La Dame de Boüard is an expressive, charming red of irresistible finesse. The indisputable proof that the high aristocracy of Bordeaux also knows how to be approachable, juicy, and profoundly appealing.
