About Justinos Medium Rich 3 Years

Justinos Medium Rich 3 Years is a fortified wine crafted by Justino’s Madeira using the tinta negra grape variety within the DOP Madeira.

The international prestige of Justino's Madeira is attributed to its extensive experience. Although the winery was established as a public limited company in 1953, the family of Justino Henriques had been producing Madeira wines since 1870. Today, it stands as one of the oldest producers and exporters, with significant reserves, making it a true benchmark of the Portuguese island.

Justinos Medium Rich 3 Years originates from vineyards planted in volcanic soil, under a temperate climate, and through traditional agriculture that cultivates the vines on small terraced trellises. This training system forms a horizontal wire structure supported by wooden or iron posts. With the vines situated on steep slopes, mechanized work is nearly impossible, so the harvest is carried out manually over several weeks, selecting the grapes based on their ripeness.

Once the grapes are in the winery, they are destemmed and pressed to begin maceration with the skins of Justinos Medium Rich 3 Years. Placed in stainless steel tanks, fermentation begins with temperature control. After 4 or 5 days, this fermentation is halted by adding wine alcohol at 96°C. It is then maintained for 3 months at a temperature of 45 to 50°C. Finally, the wines age in oak barrels and/or are blended with wines aged for at least 3 years.

The youngest in the collection, Justinos Medium Rich 3 Years offers the sweetness and structure of fortified wines in the Madeira style.
