Cillar de Silos 2023 exhibits remarkable character from the outset. In the glass, its deep cherry-red hue heralds the intensity that defines it. Upon approaching the nose, aromas of red and black fruits such as cherries and blackberries emerge, accompanied by a subtle fragrance of violets and a hint of Mediterranean spices. On the palate, it is silky and enveloping, with well-integrated mature tannins that complement a balanced structure and a long finish, where a delicate toasted nuance stands out. This wine is recommended for its elegant balance between fruit and oak, rendering it complex and highly enjoyable on any occasion.

About Cillar de Silos

One of the wines that most impressed Decanter contributors and stood out for its value (Top Value) is Cillar de Silos 2018, with 95 Decanter points, nominated by Master of Wine Simon Field, who describes it as a wine with highly seductive aromas of refined black fruit, accompanied by spicy and smoky nuances. A wine that is fresh and concentrated with a precise style, with fine tannins, revealing bright acidity and an elegant and refined palate.
 
Cillar de Silos is a family winery located in the region of Ribera del Duero which has been producing wines even before this area started to stand out. Among its vineyards, there is a small treasure: a group of vines that were never infected by phylloxera. The fruit of these vines gives us the unique opportunity to get to know the indigenous Tempranillo vines. Cillar de Silos is aged for 13 months in French oak barrels.
Cillar de Silos is the only winery in Ribera del Duero that is part of the “Wines of the year 2021” list that the prestigious Decanter publication created by doing a blind tasting where they tried some classic, unconventional and good-value wines that managed to surprise Decanter’s staff and experts around the world over the course of 2021.

Cillar de Silos 2021 is a red wine that unfolds on the nose like a stroll through a forest of red and black fruits, where raspberries and wild blackberries intermingle with delicate spices such as nutmeg, clove, and a subtle hint of vanilla. The presence of cedar and liquorice imparts a mature elegance, while the roasted notes gradually fade away, leaving a trail of freshness. On the palate, it presents as silky and balanced, with a vibrant acidity that extends its persistence, echoing those same fruity and spicy notes that dance on the nose. A wine of great length, full of intensity and harmony.

Cillar de Silos 2020 captivates us with a spectrum of scents, prominently featuring raspberries and wild blackberries, interwoven with hints of sweet spices such as nutmeg and vanilla, underpinned by a base note of cedar and licorice. On the palate, it unfolds as fleshy and smooth, displaying an impeccable harmony and a robust structure. The lively acidity ushers in a protracted and lingering finish, where the fruity and spicy flavors resonate with the olfactory impressions, underscoring its graceful sophistication.
2018

Cillar de Silos 2018 is a richly concentrated red wine bursting with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, floral undertones, and mineral accents. On the palate, it presents a fruity, robust, and silky profile. This wine is characterized by its gentle tannins, invigorating acidity, and a refined, sophisticated finish.
2015 Cillar de Silos 2015 is a mature, intense and expressive red wine. In this vintage, the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out, with spicy and elegant toasted notes of the ageing process. On the palate it is silky, with volume and a lingering finish.
2010 Good and powerful attack, medium-bodied wine with an agile and tasty mid-palate. Present tannins, not polished yet, great acidity and a pretty great load of fruit. Long and persistent finish. A safe bet.

Covered cherry red colour with violet reflections. Thin and abundant tear which colours the glass.

High intensity and very expressive nose. Very ripe black fruit, slight balsamic, vegetable and floral notes combined with toasted hints with liquorice in a suggestive mineral background.

2008 Good attack with a light but very tasty and meaty mid palate and a silky texture. Its notes of fruit and wood are well integrated with the touch of sweet spices. It has a bitter coffee taste and a correct acidity that freshens the wine. Its tannins are elegant and its finish is nice, long and lingering. A round wine: tasty, fresh and elegant.

Dark cherry colour, with violet edges. Clean and bright wine.

Balanced aromas with good intensity among which the notes of ripe red and black fruit are noticed along with a spicy touch (vanilla, chocolate), expressive notes of liquorice and elegant toasted hints.
2007 In the mouth shows the fruit is fresh, flavorful, meaty and long, with gentle tannins and round, leaving a long and pleasant memory.
