About Anza San Vicente

For years, in the family winery in Tudela, people would often tell them that with their talent for winemaking, sensitivity, and understanding of wine, if they worked in a region with the international acclaim and historic vineyards of Rioja, their success would be limitless. This idea gradually took root in the mind of this Navarrese winemaker until he decided to take the leap and showcase his capabilities. After launching his own venture, named Anza as a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Esperanza, and after garnering unanimous praise from the international critics, Diego Magaña finally arrived in the Sonsierra. There, amidst the whispers of ancient vines and the mountain breeze, he turned prophecy into a beautiful reality.

From San Vicente de la Sonsierra, within the DOCa Rioja, Anza San Vicente originates from a selection of historic plots situated in one of the most prestigious enclaves of Rioja Alta, at the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria. The vines, often surpassing half a century in age, thrive on steep slopes with very poor clay-limestone soils, ideal for limiting the plant's yield and concentrating its character. The climate blends Atlantic influences with Mediterranean nuances, bestowing mild days and cool nights that preserve an impeccable freshness in the grapes. The predominant variety is tempranillo, accompanied by small percentages of other indigenous varieties coexisting within the vineyard. The cultivation philosophy is anchored in respectful agriculture, without haste, promoting soil biodiversity and carrying out meticulous manual harvesting.

The crafting of Anza San Vicente aims to accompany the expression of the landscape through meticulous and artisanal work in the winery. Once the grapes are hand-harvested, the clusters pass through a selection table and are destemmed, separating the berries from the stalk or woody part of the plant. The must begins alcoholic fermentation in oak vats at controlled temperatures. During this time, gentle macerations with the grape skins are carried out to extract color, texture, and aromas without forcing extraction. After fermentation is complete, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and rests in French oak barrels where it matures to refine its structure before being bottled.

Anza San Vicente is a complex, fluid, and profoundly elegant red wine, where red fruit memories, floral notes, and the minerality of limestone meld into a sip of unforgettable delicacy. A dream come true.
