Tasting notes Alba Abiega desde Zero 2024
Red wine Aged in wood. 9 meses en barricas de roble.
Alba Abiega desde Zero 2024 dazzles with its deep crimson hue and intense violet undertones, presenting a striking visual appeal. On the nose, it is a delight with vibrant notes of fresh fruits such as blackberries and blueberries emerging with clarity. The aging in French oak adds an extra layer of complexity, imparting subtle aromas of dark chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of toastiness. On the palate, it is a fruity wine with a slight silky tannin that provides a velvety sensation. Its finish is long, with memorable balsamic hints of liquorice. Recommended for its balance between the fruit and the subtlety of the oak, making each sip a pleasurable and enveloping experience. Furthermore, the 2024 vintage promises an exceptionally concentrated profile, ideal for those who enjoy intense wines.

About Alba Abiega desde Zero
Starting anew is not always an inspiring phrase. Sometimes it comes after years when everything is functioning, but one ceases to recognise oneself in the pace.
Alba Abiega experienced it this way. More than twenty years in technology, automotive, and digital advertising, leading projects in global environments where time never stands still. Until that constant motion begins to lose its meaning.
Returning was not a romantic gesture. It was both a practical and emotional decision. To escape that noise, to reconnect with the land and to shape something personal, without intermediaries. At this juncture, Desde Zero emerges. Not as a break, but as a different form of continuity.
In Olmedillo de Roa, at the heart of the Burgos Ribera del Duero, the project is rooted in a family vineyard planted in 1999. The Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin defines a demanding landscape. Cold winters, dry summers, and a marked temperature range between day and night during ripening. This contrast is crucial for the grape to retain freshness and develop concentration in a balanced manner.
The vineyard is situated at an elevation within the region, a factor that slows maturation and allows for a more precise expression of the fruit. The tempranillo vines, locally known as tinta fina, offer small clusters and thick skins, a natural foundation for wines with both structure and finesse. The soil is calcareous and poor in organic matter. This apparent harshness forces the vine to delve deeper, generating a more intense and defined response from the vineyard. Once the grape reaches its optimal ripeness, the harvest is carried out manually, selecting the grapes directly in the vineyard.
In the winery, the grapes are destemmed to remove the stalks and work solely with the berries. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in tanks, where sugars are naturally transformed into alcohol, respecting the expression of the fruit. Then malolactic fermentation takes place, and afterwards, the wine ages for 9 months in 225-litre French oak barrels. The wood complements without overpowering, refining the texture and adding complexity without overshadowing the fruit's prominence. Finally, it is bottled, completing a process that seeks a balance between vineyard identity and a contemporary interpretation of Ribera del Duero.
The result does not require grand declarations. In 2026, the Guía Vinos Gourmets recognises Alba Abiega desde Zero as the Best Red Wine of 2024 in Spain, Best Red Wine of the vintage under 15 euros, awarding it 96 points. These accolades do not alter its essence, but they do confirm that returning to the origin, when done with honesty, can also be a form of excellence.
